Publicación de nueva obra sobre Historia de la Arqueología

El Museo Arqueológico de Asturias cuenta ya con el relato de sus más de 150 años de trayectoria. El Gobierno de Asturias y la editorial Impronta coeditan Historia del Museo Arqueológico de Asturias, escrito por el arqueólogo José Antonio Fernández de Córdoba Pérez. El libro fue presentado la tarde del 20 de octubre de este año en el salón de actos del museo por el director general de Cultura y Patrimonio, Pablo León; la directora del Museo, María Antonia Pedregal, Marco de la Rasilla Vives, profesor titular de Prehistoria de la Universidad de Oviedo, y el propio autor. La obra recoge la evolución de esta institución desde 1844 hasta 1996, lo que permite realizar un viaje a través de la historia de la arqueología en Asturias a través de más de siglo y medio. El texto pone especial atención en explicar la formación de la actual colección y en dejar constancia de las personas que de una u otra forma han mantenido un vínculo relevante con la institución, especialmente sus conservadores y los principales donantes de piezas. El origen del Museo Arqueológico se remonta a la obligación de la Comisión de Monumentos de Asturias de recoger las piezas más relevantes procedentes de la desamortización. Sin embargo, desde sus inicios se aprecia el interés de sus promotores por reunir los objetos más significativos para ilustrar la historia de Asturias, en el contexto de la creación de la idea de la nación española y sus regiones. El libro se ocupa también de las diferentes sedes que ha ocupado la institución a lo largo de esos 150 años de historia como el convento de San Francisco de Oviedo/Uviéu, el patio central de las Escuelas Normales de la calle Uría, los bajos de casa del deán Payarinos (el edificio del actual conservatorio) y, finalmente, el monasterio de San Vicente. Al frente de la institución han estado personalidades destacadas y vinculadas con el estudio de la historia y la cultura en Asturias, como el historiador Ciriaco Miguel Vigil, el profesor de la Universidad de Oviedo Fermín Canella Secades o el escultor Víctor Hevia Granda. A partir de 1952 se sucedieron como directores del mismo Manuel Jorge Aragoneses, Francisco Jordá Cerdá, Carlos María de Luis y Matilde Escortell Ponsoda. El libro revisa la evolución de las exposiciones permanentes y recoge las vinculaciones del Museo con otras instituciones, especialmente la Comisión de Monumentos de Asturias y el Servicio de Investigaciones Arqueológicas, sobre cuya historia se ofrecen importantes novedades. Incluye también una aproximación a la formación de su biblioteca y al montaje museográfico de la celda del padre Feijoo.

DECLARACIÓN INSTITUCIONAL

Hace dos años un periodista, Mariano de Santa Ana, se dedicó al envío masivo de correos electrónicos y anuncios en las redes sociales denunciando presuntos plagios en la obra del Prof. José Farrujia. Poco después el periodista, a cuya denuncia se unieron dos profesores universitarios, exigió de forma improcedente, que la Sociedad Española de Historia de La Arqueología (SEHA), sociedad a la que pertenece el Prof. Farrujia, enviara sus escritos acusadores a todos los miembros de la SEHA. Como presidente de la SEHA hice dos cosas: primero, ofrecer una reunión on-line de la Directiva de la SEHA (tiempos de la pandemia de covid-19) con el Prof. José Farrujia, que fue muy esclarecedora en la que aportó datos y evidencias, pudo tener el derecho a la presunción de inocencia y a explicar su versión de las imputaciones; y segundo, decidir que esperaríamos al pronunciamiento de la institución donde trabaja el Dr. Farrujia, la Universidad de La Laguna, antes de tomar decisión alguna. Con el acuerdo de que si el pronunciamiento era favorable a la acusación la Junta Directiva de la SEHA propondría la exclusión del acusado de plagio. Con fecha de 15 de Junio de 2022 el informe oficial de la Rectora de la Universidad de La Laguna, concluye que no hay caso de plagio en las acusaciones vertidas, que una falta leve de procedimiento notificada ha quedado prescrita y que en consecuencia el Prof. José Farrujia, sigue teniendo un expediente académico impoluto y libre de toda sospecha. En reunión de la Directiva de la SEHA de 18 de Junio de 2022 (a la que no pudo asistir el Prof. Jesús Salas), la Junta Directiva celebró la noticia y expresó su apoyo y aprecio al Prof. Farrujia, lamentando mucho el daño hecho en su persona, en unos tiempos en los que las noticias falsas, los juicios “sumarios”, fuera de los órganos institucionales y jurídicos, pretenden erigirse en jueces de personas y situaciones. La SEHA ha procedido con prudencia, ateniéndose a las resoluciones de las instituciones y órganos competentes, a la hora de pronunciarse sobre un caso como este, y expresa su satisfacción por la resolución de inocencia del Prof. José Farrujia y el orgullo de contar con su pertenencia a nuestra asociación.

47th INHIGEO SYMPOSIUM 2022 at Les Eyzies in southwestern France: Second circular

Dear Friends and Colleagues. Next INHIGEO congress, which will take place at Les Eyzies, France, on September 16th to September 26th, 2022. The Comité français d’Histoire de la Géologie (COFRHIGEO) will organize the 2022 INHIGEO Congress in France, from September 16th to September 26th, 2022, in the Périgord region (southwestern France). The main venue of the congress will be Les Eyzies-de-Tayac, a picturesque village in the Vézère Valley, otherwise known for its National Museum of Prehistory, its many prehistoric sites and decorated caves (Lascaux, Cro-Magnon, La Madeleine, Font de Gaume, Combarelles, etc.). The village of Les Eyzies de Tayac is in the heart of an active tourist region with many accommodation offers at reasonable prices. The village is also well served by train from the city of Bordeaux. The 5-day conference will include four days of talks and scientific activities, and one-day excursion in the Vézère Valley (Lascaux IV, Le Grand Roc, Laugerie Haute & Laugerie Basse). Conference talks and poster sessions will take place at the Pôle International de Préhistoire of Les Eyzies, from September 17th to 21st, 2022. The main scientific themes will be: 1. History of Quaternary geology, prehistory and geology of caves; 2. History of Miocene geology, since the region includes the Burdigalian and Aquitanian stratotypes; 3. Other sessions of the conference will cover all subjects related to the history of geosciences. In addition, pre- and post-conference excursions, subject to independent pricing and organization, will be planned: Pre-conference excursion, from Poitiers to Les Eyzies (September 16th): The impact sites of Chassenon-Rochechouart resulted from the fall of an asteroid in Triassic times. Molten and brecciated rocks, observed by Desmaret in 1773, were long taken for volcanic rocks, and remained a geological enigma until the 1960s, when the impact origin was recognized Post-conference excursion, from Les Eyzies to Bordeaux (September 22st to 26th): The Vézère Valley and other prehistoric sites further south, in Périgord and Quercy (Pech Merle and Cougnac caves), will be visited. The excursion will end with the Miocene sites of the Bordeaux region: Sainte-Croix-du-Mont (studied since 1620); the Saucats and La Brède Natural Geological Reserve (Burdigalian and Aquitanian stratotypes, Montesquieu’s house). Some Bordeaux vineyards and cellars, notably the Bordeaux Wine Museum, will also be on the program. The Conference program will be supervised by a Scientific committee, chaired by Philippe Taquet, former president of the INHIGEO and current president of the COFRHIGEO. The material organization (registrations, financial management) will be entrusted to an Organizing committee, chaired by Claudine Cohen and Pascal Richet. It will benefit from several sponsorships and the services of the association Naturalia et Biologia. The abstract and excursion booklets, written in English, will be published in digital formats, and if possible, in hard copy. After a year of pandemic, we invite you with great pleasure to come to Les Eyzies for a congress which will be the occasion to meet again and to visit interesting sites in a pleasant region. The abstract should have a short and explicit title, should be no longer than 300 words, with a maximum of 3 bibliographical references. Please, write it in Arial 12 and line space 1; There is a model in the 2nd circular on the conference website. If you would like to attend the conference without presenting a paper or as an accompanying person, please specify, and fill in the first lines of the form (name, function, addresses). The cost of the conference registration will be around 420 euros, the pre-conference field trip 75 euros and post-conference field trip around 650 euros. For those who would register for all events, the total cost will thus be around 1100 / 1200 euros. During the 5-day conference, the inaugural reception, all lunches and the final banquet will be covered by the registration fees, and so will be the mid-conference day trip to Lascaux and other local sites. Other evening meals and hotel reservations will be at your charge. In our end-March circular we will provide, along with the exact amount of registration and field trip fees, a list of local accommodations with a large range of prices (starting from 40 euros), from simple rooms or shared apartments to more fancy hotels. A program of visits for accompanying persons will be provided every afternoon. The one-day pre-conference field trip will start on September 16th from Poitiers. The conference will take place between September 17th and 21st at the Pôle international de Préhistoire in Les Eyzies de Tayac. The post-conference field trip will last for five days, from Sept 22nd to Sept 26th. The organization of this field trip will include all meals, accommodation on the basis of shared hotel rooms or apartments, and tickets to all visits, which will be as much as possible led by Englishspeaking guides. The conference will end in Bordeaux. The conference and excursion programs are given in the conference website (www.inhigeo.com/france2022), which will be adjusted over time. We hope that September 2022 will be a good time to travel safely. We are aware that the sanitary situation might lead us to change some aspects of this organization. We will observe it with attention, and will let you know. In any case, we will plan a reimbursement program if some of you are unable to attend. For those who will have difficulty to travel, we hope to be able to offer a hybrid format, with online streaming of the talks.
